JOANNA SMITH

While at the University of Georgia, Joanna grew particularly fond of Latin American history and literature. She studied abroad at the Universidad de Montevideo in Uruguay, where she focused her studies on civic engagement and volunteered at a local school teaching English. She later interned on a conservation reserve in Ecuador, where her time was spent making organic fertilizers and planting fair-trade coffee. She has also traveled extensively in Argentina, Peru, and Mexico. After school, Joanna began traveling and working various jobs in Europe. She walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain, led children’s camps at the Embassy of the United States in Italy, managed hostels in Croatia and Portugal, and volunteered at a community center for refugees in Serbia. She now works as a legal assistant specializing in juvenile asylum cases in Atlanta. This fall, Joanna hopes to join AmeriCorps as a VISTA volunteer and continue to work at the intersection of youth and migration issues. She is fluent in Spanish.
ADAM PAWLIKIEWICZ
College of William and Mary, B.B.A., Business Administration, minor in Hispanic Studies
While at William and Mary, Adam focused on entrepreneurship and Hispanic studies, studying the intersection of international business and Latin American culture, which culminated in a six-month study abroad experience in La Plata, Argentina, and numerous trips to the U.S.-Mexico border to learn more about immigration policy. After graduating from college, he biked solo and unsupported across the U.S., ending in Washington, D.C., where he began working as a management consultant for Deloitte Consulting. Adam has always had a passion for photography and travel and after three years of work at Deloitte, he began contributing video and stills for a variety of outdoor brands and publications, including Rock & Ice magazine and Adidas Terrex. He has lived abroad in Colombia, Poland, Argentina, and Mexico, and has traveled extensively through Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. He now works full time as a traveling freelance photographer and owns his own media agency, On The Go Media. Adam is fluent in Polish, Spanish, and English. This fall, he will be returning to his business and growing his influence even further in his home state of Colorado, shooting an adventure documentary in August.
